The family of enzymes known as protein kinase A (PKA) in cell biology depends on cellular levels of cyclic AMP for its action (cAMP). PKA is a protein kinase that is cAMP-dependent. PKA performs a variety of tasks in the cell, including controlling the metabolism of sugar, lipids, and glycogen. Contrary to 5'-AMP-activated protein kinase, it shouldn't be mistaken with it (AMP-activated protein kinase).
