The following reactions take place in the reactor: CH₂CH₂ + H₂¹C6H6+ CH4 CH₂(CH3)3 + H₂CH(CH3)2 + CH In addition, an unwanted side reaction occurs, in which benzene dimerizes to form diphenyl [C6H5C6H5] 2 C6H6C6H5C6H5 + H₂ A process stream containing 5 mol% benzene [CH], 20 mol % toluene [CH₂CH3], 35 mol% xylene [C6H4 (CH3)₂], and 40 mol% pseudocumene [C6H3 (CH3)3] is fed to a hydrodealkylation plant. This process stream is mixed with hydrogen gas in 5:1 gas-aromatics ratio before being fed to the reactor.
