Pyruvate is the end product of glycolysis. Under aerobic conditions, pyruvate is oxidised into acetate by pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. The acetate enters the TCA as Acetyl CoA where it is oxidised into carbon dioxide and water to generate NADH and FADH2 for ATP synthesis.
