Topic 8 DQ 1 Submitted on: Jan 24, 2024, 8:52 PM GO TO DISCUSSION Start Date Jan 22, 2024, 12:00 AM Due Date Jan 24, 2024, 11:59 PM Points 5 Status Published Assessment Description Consider the following scenario: You are teaching in a STEM classroom to middle schoolers. In your class are various forms of technology that students use for social media use, along with STEM related activities. You find out that one of your students is being bullied on social media and several of the comments have taken place during school hours and possibly during your class. How will you approach this situation from a Christian worldview perspective with compassion, justice, and concern for the common good? Attempt 1 RH Randi Hermann Jan 24, 2024, 8:52 PM First I would immediately ensure the well-being of the student who is being bullied. I would provide a safe and private space to express their feelings and concerns while reassuring them of their value and worth. Secondly, I would address the situation in a respectful way to the entire class and remind them that this situation is not taken lightly and action will be taken. After I've addressed the situation with the class, I would investigate the situation discreetly and respectfully, adhering to the school's policies. I would approach the student involved in the bullying and explain the seriousness of their actions, the hurt they've caused, and the consequences that will
follow. I would encourage them to apologize to the victim. Finally, I would involve the Principal and follow any appropriate steps like setting up a face-to-face meeting with the parents/guardians to notify them of the situation at hand and how we can try and move forward positively. Once all the appropriate steps have been taken, I would regularly check in with the student who was bullied to ensure their continued well- being and to provide ongoing support. Monitoring the class dynamics to prevent future incidents would also be put into place.
