My Family Crucible Devona Jackson Brigham Young University-Idaho FAML 360: Family Stress and Coping Sister Allison Hicken November 28, 2023
My Family Crucible Memorial Day weekend has always been a special time for my family. My first intention was to utilize the Typology Model to analyze a specific stressor. Nonetheless, when my family was diagnosed with COVID-19 during Memorial Day weekend 2021, an unforeseen development occurred, forcing a community adjustment to this dreadful sickness. Despite the bad consequences of receiving COVID-19 and the current recovery process, this challenge has been a fantastic learning opportunity, allowing me to use the Typology Model in the context of a true stressor.   The Typology Model was used to assess my family's level of adaptability throughout the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The Typology Model associates Stressor A with the family's crisis, which in my family was the diagnosis of COVID-19. The degree of stress experienced by the family during the crisis is influenced by the intensity of the stressor. The stressor's severity is assessed by how much it affects or jeopardizes the family's stability, which includes any demand on the family's readily available resources. The model's "V" variable determines the family system's vulnerability. In addition to the needs imposed by the family life cycle stage, the model's vulnerability is defined as the result of earlier or concurrent stresses, pressures, and transitions, as well as the associated duties. Weber (2011) asserts. The term "my family" refers to my close family members which includes my sisters, my mother, and their spouses. My siblings were saddled with an accumulation of strain due to the prevalence of several difficulties, including work-related duties and additional household responsibilities. As a result, their already high levels of anxiousness were exacerbated. Furthermore, we were burdened by sickness, which exacerbated our overall stress levels. Another concern that my spouse and I have is that we may be unable to meet our financial
responsibilities because of our unemployment. Every member of my family has been advised not to report to their respective places of employment due to the positive COVID-19 test results. My family is under financial strain because of having to care for other family members, especially my grandfather, who has been diagnosed with dementia. They are also responsible for getting medications for all members of the household. My mother and siblings have been affected by the current situation. The model's T component depicts the family type, which assists understanding of the family's normal evaluation, operation, and behavior. Weber (2011) asserts. The categorization of a family determines its capacity to respond successfully to a crisis. The endeavor of conducting a family study using the four unique typological categories proved to be quite instructive. The Typology of Regenerative Families describes the method used to categorize types. My family may be classified as regenerative due to its amazing durability and coherence. Everyone has an innate communal sense of the importance of meaning, autonomy, and commitment. This knowledge promotes healthy interpersonal interactions as well as positive emotions such as affection, trust, contentment, admiration, and shared values. These attributes have significantly benefited our capacity to retain a positive and personal perspective during the difficult path. The Resilient Family Typology is addressed in the following categorization. Concepts such as family connection and adaptability are included in the typology. The strength of my family may be attributed to our shared characteristics of flexibility, adaptability, and strong interpersonal interactions. Seeing my husband's enthusiasm and willingness to take on a big portion of his responsibilities to care for me and my siblings made me immensely pleased. During this challenging moment, the uplifting phenomenon of enhanced interpersonal

connection among individuals has been seen. We assembled for a detailed discussion as soon as we discovered my sister had COVID-19 to choose the best course of action. As a result, we agreed, however reluctantly, to cancel all festivities. Their solution to the problem, in my opinion, was successful, marked by perseverance and constructive conduct. Despite our circumstances, my family and I enjoyed a fantastic day full of bravery. Despite the challenges we faced, we kept an optimistic attitude and faith in our abilities to overcome adversity. The third area is the Typology of Rhythmic Families, which comprises various temporal characteristics, regular patterns, and significance. My family has a rhythmic dynamic based on regular family reunions, established recurring patterns, and a strong commitment to maintaining familial traditions. My family values spending quality time together and actively participates in a range of wholesome activities, such as communal meals, and various outdoor recreational activities. Regardless of the pandemic’s consequences on numerous facets of life, we continue to engage in the regular activity of spending significant time establishing interpersonal ties. By sitting on the sofa and absorbing audiovisual content in the form of films while engaging in interactive digital leisure, we have developed family togetherness as a group. The Typology of Traditionalistic Families is the fourth category, which includes festival observance and commemoration. My family was ritualistic and placed a great significance on holiday celebrations. Everyone anticipates and cherishes these occasions since each one is distinguished by its own set of customs and rituals. Extensive preparations were made to decorate the house for the Memorial Day celebration, allowing my siblings to arrive and participate in the festivities. Because we appreciate vacations and believe them to be an essential part of our tradition, the cancellation of our holiday plans due to the COVID-19 outbreak has been quite upsetting for my immediate family.
During this difficult time, my family faced the risk and susceptibility of contracting a severe illness that would necessitate medical care. The scenario caused me a great deal of anguish because of my spouse's weakened immune system. Contrary to widespread opinion, he is the only member of his family who is symptom-free. Furthermore, we faced the possibility of domestic strife, disease transmission to our extended relatives (with whom we had planned Memorial Day activities), prevalent mental health issues such as anxiety and depression (which runs in our family), and financial hardships for my family because of their inability to work. The Family Typology categories are closely related to B and C. B is about the family's resources and the methods they employ to obtain them. C is about how the family views and evaluates the situation. Fortunately, my family was able to gather the resources needed to tackle the matter effectively. My sister was able to persuade her employer to pay her for her medical absence. Similarly, my other sister expertly communicated with her numerous divisions at work to obtain prolonged times for work projects due to her separate incapacities. Some of our family friends gently aided her by undertaking chores during their period of seclusion. Our family's ability to recognize and efficiently employ these resources aided in their crisis adjustment. By using a cognitive approach, we were able to remain calm, investigate and implement relevant resources, and maintain a good attitude throughout the crisis. PSC, or the family's problem-solving and coping response, is influenced by both components C and B. The crisis provided opportunities for my family to band together to allow them to emphasize the need of maintaining a long-term perspective and display our profound care and concern for one another. Despite the horrible circumstances that had brought us together and the shared pain they were suffering, the opportunity to spend a whole week together satiated their
joy because of our great attachment to one another. Without a doubt, my sisters' and mother's current circumstances have inspired Christlike attributes in them. No one has been determined to be responsible for the events that occurred. On the contrary, a general attitude of tolerance has remained, bolstered by the belief that things would ultimately be better. Despite personal distress, constant acts of kindness have been displayed, and mutual support and well-being have been evaluated on a regular basis. The schema of my family is distinguished by a strong sense of unity and mutual help, especially during times of crisis. It was difficult for my family to conceive what else they could do when my sister’s health was exposed. A commercially available COVID-19 home test was used to determine the presence or absence of the virus. The family gathered quickly after learning of a positive test result, exhibiting flexibility considering the changes and offering mutual support. One component that my sisters and mother deeply regretted is the failure to devote more family time to prayer as a method of seeking spiritual direction throughout our trying times.. Nonetheless, due to our shared ailment, we unintentionally skipped the group prayer. Mutual monitoring and support are employed to guarantee that all participants are safe. My family's schema is distinguished by a high predisposition for group support and reciprocal aid in times of difficulty. Identifying alternate courses of action that my family may have taken once my sibling's sickness was revealed is a huge problem. To assess the presence or absence of COVID-19, a commercially available home COVID test was used. The family quickly came together and efficiently adapted to the changes, providing one another comfort in the aftermath of her positive test result. An element that causes me concern is the possibility of increased reliance on familial prayer as a method to seek spiritual guidance throughout this challenging time.. Nevertheless,
