2 Paper Summary Study Title Investigation of Latina / or college students of the United States’ conduct towards online therapy focuses on ethnicity, stigma, and recognition. Study Question The study sought to determine whether there is a disparity between online counseling and face-to-face on gender in the view of students at Latina education. Related research proceeds to see whether online therapy attitudes have with relation to gender, stigma, and perceived stigmatization by others. Value or New Information Ballesteros & Hilliard (2016) indicated the overall, students in Latina/countries demonstrated very favorable attitudes to both online and face-to-face therapy (Ballesteros & Hilliard, 2016). Suggested Online counseling with shame and face-to-face therapy was significantly detrimental in comparison with what was viewed as the stigma of colleagues, teachers/academics and the stigmata of themselves. Methodology The study involved a questionnaire sequence performed by a convenient selection of 246 undergraduates from three different universities in assorted regions around the United States (Ballesteros & Hilliard, 206). They were quickly chosen based on access to samples from these institutions by researchers. Results and Conclusions
3 The authors found out that Internet counseling has a powerful connection to stigma. Simultaneously, informal therapy was closely linked to self-stigma and presumed stigma of the family, peers, and teachers (Ballesteros & Hilliard, 2016). The authors concluded that if people think that asking for support could cause the family shame, or if their family may have negative opinions about finding advice, they can absorb those signals and see help-seeking as a character defect that leads to negative attitudes in searching for advice. Limitations Noted by Ballesteros & Hilliard (2016), it was not clear which format for online advice was suggested. The OCAS guidelines mention that online consultation should be measured by an online instantaneous chat arrangement or by email (Ballesteros & Hilliard, 2016). Attitudes can differ depending on details of the provision of online advice. Also, the most widely-identified Hispanic/Latino sample could not be explained, and the exact distribution of many Latino/ethnic groups in Latino communities could not be standardized. Reference
