SYMLOG stands for “System Multiple Level Observation of Groups, it is defined as it's a theoretical and structured coding system developed by Robert F. Bales to analyze group behavior and dynamics. It focuses on three dimensions: dominance or submissiveness, friendliness or unfriendliness, and acceptance or nonacceptance of task-oriented authority. By observing and rating group members on these dimensions, SYMLOG provides a comprehensive understanding of the roles, status, and attraction relations within a group, revealing the underlying structures and recurring patterns of interpersonal behaviors. The SYMLOG model, developed by Robert F. Bales, focuses on three dimensions: dominance or submissiveness, friendliness or unfriendliness, and acceptance or nonacceptance of task-oriented authority. These dimensions provide a framework for analyzing and understanding the behaviors and interactions within a group. The dimension of dominance or submissiveness refers to the level of assertiveness and control exhibited by group members. Dominant individuals tend to be active, outgoing, and talkative, while submissive individuals are more passive, quiet, and introverted. This dimension reflects the power dynamics and status hierarchy within the group, as well as the level of influence exerted by different members.
