PSY 211 Module Two Milestone Template Review the article “Six Dimensions of Wellness.” Then answer each question with a minimum of 3 to 5 sentences. Choose one of the wellness dimensions and explain whether you feel it is guided more by nature or nurture. Explain your response. The wellness dimension I chose to explain is the spiritual dimension. I feel that this dimension is guided more by nurture. When we are growing up, our parents raise us to have certain beliefs. As we get older, we can choose to change these beliefs however, we are still influenced by the way we were raised. Explain how one dimension of wellness influences cognitive well-being during a specific stage of development. The emotional wellness dimension greatly influences cognitive well-being during multiple different stages of development. Emotional wellness includes the capacity to manage one’s feelings and related behaviors including the realistic assessment of one’s limitations, development of autonomy, and ability to cope effectively with stress (Hettler, 1976). Having the ability to regulate feelings and cope in certain situations has a big impact on one’s cognitive well- being. Identify the wellness dimension that you feel most in control of. Explain your response. The wellness dimension that I feel I have the most control over is the spiritual dimension. Although, many things that happen in the spiritual world happen without our knowledge, I do have control over how I chose to align my beliefs with my actions. It is up to me to put in the work to make sure my mind, body, and spirit are all on the right path. Identify the wellness dimension that you feel least in control of. Explain your response. The wellness dimension that I feel I have the least control over is the emotional dimension. I struggle with being self-aware and with managing my emotions or feelings. I often react out of emotion when I am in a difficult or stressful situation. Choose one dimension that you believe to be predominant in development. Explain your response. The dimension that I believe is predominant in development is the social dimension. Throughout our entire lives, we are surrounded by people of all different backgrounds. From the time we are infants until we are elders, we spend time in different social situations that play a huge part in our development. The people around us influence the way we live on a day-to-day basis. Explain how emotional intelligence and resilience factors affect your well-being. o Consider how you can apply the dimensions of wellness to support your own well-being in your response. Emotional intelligence and resilience factors affect my well-being in many ways. Emotional wellness can help me learn to be more self-aware, manage my emotions, and adapt to change. Spiritual wellness can help me keep my morals and values in check so that I can be ethical in my personal and professional life. 1
Intellectual wellness helps keep me involved in positive activities that are mentally stimulating. Social wellness allows me to find my purpose or place in this world. Occupational wellness allows me to take a step back to make sure I am prioritizing work and life. 2
