PSY 211 Module One Milestone Template In the Module One Milestone Guidelines and Rubric, review the Overview and Prompt sections. Then answer each of the following questions with a minimum of 3 to 5 sentences. Support your answers with credible sources when appropriate. Complete this template by replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information. Compare the psychological factors that have influenced both Jan’s and Judi’s development. o Consider their cognitive and affective factors in your response. The psychological factor that influenced both Jan’s and Judi’s development is the environment they were in at home. After they were separated, Jan went to a “warm, loving” home where she had support from her family which allowed her to blossom. On the other hand, Judi when to a toxic home environment where her mother had mental health issues and her father was an abusive alcoholic. This caused her to battle with addiction, alcoholism, and mental illness her entire life. Compare the social factors that have influenced both Jan’s and Judi’s development. o Consider their relational and environmental factors in your response. The social factors that have influenced Jan is a loving home with parents who were positive and supportive which gave her the ability to have healthy relationships personally and professionally. The social factors that influenced Judi is a chaotic and abusive home which led her to turn to toxic relationships, drugs, and alcohol. These women have opposite lifestyles and I believe their home environment played a huge role in that. Explain whether nature or nurture had a more significant role in Jan’s and Judi’s development. Support your answers with examples from the scenario. o Consider using biological, psychological, and social factors in your response. Nurture had a more significant role in Jan’s and Judi’s development. Biologically, they are the same since they are twins, and they share DNA. Psychologically, they grew up in two completely different environments which had a positive impact on Jan’s development and a negative impact on Judi’s development. Socially, Jan is outgoing and has multiple groups of friends and on the other hand, Judi went down a darker path. Explain why it is important to consider nature and nurture in combination throughout the life span when evaluating an individual’s well-being. It is important to consider nature and nurture in because they both play a huge role in the person you are. I find the nature/nurture debate very interesting. I grew up in a very good household with loving, supportive parents. By the age of 19, I had been in 6 inpatient and 3 outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs. My parents raised me the same way they raised my brother who was on the Dean’s List and top of his engineering class at the University of Cincinnati at the age of 19. We both chose different paths based on the people and the environment we were in; despite the way our parents raised us. 1
