Jessica Flangan PSY 310 Discussion 1-1 Hello, everyone. I’m Jessie and I am excited to delve into the fascinating world of criminal psychology with all of you. Based on my initial understanding, criminal psychology primarily investigates the psychological aspects that make an individual predisposed to criminal behavior or capable of resisting it. This field has always intrigued me because it examines the interplay between psychology and law. From this course, I look forward to deepening my knowledge about the mechanisms underlying criminal behavior and the various strategies professionals employ to mitigate crime. This course aims to enhance my understanding of how psychological research can be applied to the legal system and contribute to societal well-being. Addressing the Module One Discussion Scenario, several factors influence an individual's motivation to commit a crime. From a developmental perspective, early exposure to unfavorable environments can contribute to criminal tendencies. Biologically, research suggests that specific brain abnormalities might predispose an individual to criminal behavior. Finally, situational factors like poverty or immediate circumstances can also instigate illegal activities. It's essential to remember that these factors don't exist in isolation but interact in complex ways to shape a person's behavior. As we progress through this course, I look forward to exploring these factors in more detail and understanding their impact on criminal motivation. Being part of such a diverse learning community is a privilege, and I am excited to learn from all of you. Let's embark on this journey together and expand our knowledge about the fascinating field of criminal psychology!
