THEO104 WEEK 4 Discussion Thread Response 1 Hurbey, thank you for your thoughts on this topic. Your reflection on the sacred/secular divide resonates deeply with biblical teachings. In Colossians 3:17, it is written, "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (New International Version Bible, 2011). This verse encourages believers to integrate their faith into every aspect of their lives, whether spiritual or secular. Similarly, in Matthew 5:13-16, Jesus teaches that believers are the "salt of the earth" and the "light of the world," implying that their faith should permeate and influence the world around them (New International Version Bible, 2011). Moreover, the Bible emphasizes the importance of engaging with culture while maintaining one's faith. In Jeremiah 29:7, God instructs the Israelites to seek the welfare of the city where they have been exiled (English Standard Version Bible, 2016), demonstrating the need for active involvement in society. Therefore, by bridging the gap between the sacred and the secular, Christians can fulfill their calling to be salt and light in the world, impacting culture positively and contributing to meaningful discussions on societal issues from a biblical perspective.
