2 Chapter 6 Reflection Essay Albert Bandura's Social Learning Theory highlights the role of observation and modeling in the learning process. Personally, I am selective about the individuals I choose to follow, recognizing that everyone possesses unique skills that I aspire to acquire. However, I am cautious not to adopt any negative habits from what I observe. A notable example is my mother, a significant figure in most families. She impacted a valuable lesson by demonstrating the importance of working hard for my goals. Although she didn't directly instruct me to do so, I absorbed this through years of observation, witnessing her dedication even when faced with fatigue and hunger, and exhaustion. This upbringing instilled in me a strong work ethic, but I've also learned to adapt and enhance my skills over time. For instance, I acquired the ability to work smarter, not just harder. Initially skeptical, changing this behavior proved challenges, but I realized the value of learning new skills to complement my existing ones. Our textbook illustrates, in Figure 6.16, how both humans and animals engage in observational learning and operant conditioning. An example showcases a spider monkey learning to drink water from a plastic bottle by observing the behavior modeled by a human. This underscores the theory's application not only in human learning but also in the broader context of the animal kingdom.
