Assignment 3: Promoting Development and Developmentally Appropriate Practice Domain Activity Materials Physical 1.1 Animal Imitation 1.1 Have flashcards of animals. Rationale: They students can practice how different animals walk or run and will be able to show the physical differences of different species. 1.2 Relay Races 1.2 Have teams that go against each other and have coordinated colors for different stations Rationale: Practicing this promotes that physical health of the student and the colors at each station will coordinate with a different exercise. 1.3 Lost and Found 1.3 Have a toy bin and other containers with different items from around the classroom. Rationale: This shows that having to dig through things to find what they need to finish the game helps with some senses like touching without really being able to see what they need. 1.4 Jewelry Making 1.4 Plastic Beads and some plastic/yarn string. Rationale: Making different jewelry helps with focus and showing how to physical have the motor skills. 1.5 Dancing 1.5 Radio or Speaker Rationale: Dancing can help with physical fitness as well as rhythm and coordination. Cognitive 2.1 Singing the Alphabet 2.1 Large Alphabet cards Rationale: This practice with singing the alphabet promotes remembering how each letter sounds. The Large cards promote the visual aspect of what the letter are supposed to look like and doing both together makes them remember. 2.2 Book Circle 2.2 Books with pictures and sounds Rationale: By applying this method it promotes the child to remember sounds for words and some letters that are noticeable. This also may help them repeat words while the teacher is reading the book. 2.3 Practice Counting 2.3 Blocks (different colors to represent the number)
Assignment 3: Promoting Development and Developmentally Appropriate Practice Domain Activity Materials Rationale: Throughout the day have different questions that promote being able to count how many of something is within the classroom. Have a few bins of blocks at all stations of the classroom that will help when promoting the thought of counting. 2.4 Identify Noises 2.4 different Sounds Rationale: Being in a school setting or anywhere ask the children to identify the noises they hear. A knock at the door, school bus going pass, and even someone walking down the hallway (Meyers & Loehr, 2009). 2.5 Farming 2.5 farm Rationale: Having a hands-on experience to see how vegetables and fruit are made peaks a child’s curiosity and makes them have to think about what they are eating and how healthy its and how it can be grown right in their backyards. Social 3.1 Circle Time 3.1 Books and Toys Rationale: Showing how all students either know how to read or don’t, shows that they all are in the same space. They learn that they like some of the same things or even have a lot in common. Children gain friends during circle time and play time. 3.2 Play Dates 3.2 Toys and Games Rationale: Play dates help children not be so awkward when around other children or people in general. Being able to have a few friends is good for children as that’s how they learn interactions other than family and how to win and lose without feeling mad. 3.3 Field Day 3.3 Games Rationale: Having a field day can support learning new games and learning how to play as a team with understanding strengths and weaknesses among peers. 3.4 Sports Day 3.4 Different Sports teams items Rationale: This promotes the same sense of “liking” it gives the students the confidence to know they aren’t alone and there are other people in the world that go through the same things but sports teams help with confidence. 3.5 Line Leader 3.5 Environment Rationale: Playing line leader give a child a sense of self, being in charge helps with building confidence, and keeps a high spirit.
Assignment 3: Promoting Development and Developmentally Appropriate Practice Domain Activity Materials Emotional 4.1 Showing Empathy 4.1 Role Playing Rationale: Showing empathy with role playing helps children put themselves in someone else shoes and they don’t even know. This helps with bullying, and they can all come together rather than engage (Lee, 2020). This is a key thing for children of this age to learn early. 4.2 Feelings 4.2 Feeling Cue Cards Rationale: Using cards within the classroom a child can pull out and show the teacher if they are having a hard time telling them their emotions. Sometimes it’s hard for young children specifically so having the emotion (sad face, happy face, etc) cards can be a way for understanding. 4.3 Name That Feeling 4.3 Voices and Characters Rationale: Being able to play this game can help them understand their feelings as well as others around them and how to discuss why the characters may be showing certain feelings. 4.4 Talk and Let go 4.4 Circle rug Rationale: this game is kind of like circle time but it’s about talking and expressing emotion but more for friends around you because not all children have listening ear or feel validated as a child should. 4.5 4.5 Rationale:
