Beliefs At Harris Elementary School counselors believe that each student has the capacity to gain knowledge and advance academically, socially, and emotionally (ASCA, 2019). Counselors also believe that every student comes equipped with distinctive strengths (ASCA, 2019). Counselors believe that race does not dictate success and that all students should be within a learning environment that considers all learning styles (ASCA, 2019). Lastly, counselors believe that all students should be provided access to comprehensive school counselor services from a Licensed Professional Counselor (ASCA, 2019). Vision To promote a comprehensive school counseling program that helps every child and cultivates collaboration between the students, faculty, family members, and the community in the hopes of eradicating the achievement gap and endowing each student to reach their full potential. Mission The Counseling Department aims to implement a comprehensive school counseling program that fosters the academic, personal, social, and career development of each child in a safe and supportive environment (ASCA, 2019). We are focused on collaborating with stakeholders to supply evidence-based assistance in promoting student growth and skills needed to remain a lifelong learner (ASCA, 2019).

Advocacy Statement At Harris Elementary Counselors advocate for the social, emotional, and academic success of all students. Counselors eradicate barriers hindering student development. We advocate for the inclusion of all learning styles and collaborate with individuals within and outside of the school to ensure students have all that is needed to promote success (Trusty & Brown, n.d.). Career, Social- Emotional, & Academic & Peer Intervention Programming Services will be implemented by: 1. Peer Support (one-to-one and groups) (ASCA, 2019) 2. Character Education on a School-Wide Level (Corsino & Fuller, 2012) 3. Career Day monthly. 4. Weekly guidance lessons on bullying, character development, etc. (Trust & Brown, n.d.). 5. Feelings Journals (ASCA, 2019). . Strategies for Promoting Equity in student achievement, college & career Readiness, and Success. Diverse curriculum to fit all learning styles (ASCA, 2019). Ensure each student is held to a high standard (ASCA, 2019). Understand personal bias and limitations (ASCA, 2019). Gain knowledge surrounding other cultures (Corsino & Fuller, 2021). Strategies to facilitate school and postsecondary transitions. Career Day Assignments geared toward different professions. Wear your favorite college shirt for the day.
