PSY 328 Module Three Journal Template First, complete the Big Five Personality Test and take a screenshot of your results. Next, complete this template by replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information. • Identify one trait from the Big Five (openness, also known as intellect/imagination; conscientiousness; extraversion; agreeableness; or neuroticism, also known as emotional stability) that promotes effectiveness in one of the following areas: communication, motivation, or adaptability. You can also speak to an area of your choice. Your response should be 2 to 5 sentences in length. Include the following in your response: I think that out of the Big Five's five attributes, agreeableness is the one that fosters adaptability effectiveness. I am amiable and upbeat compared to people with low agreeableness scores, who are critical and aggressive. I scored very high in this area. My ability to rapidly adapt to our constantly changing classroom environment, whether the changes are favorable or negative, without being critical or aggressive towards others has come from being kind and upbeat at work. Identify one trait from the Big Five that you would like to improve and explain why. Your response should be 2 to 5 sentences in length. Consider the following in your response: o Where do you see evidence of this trait in your behaviors? o What behavior would you like to see? One of the traits I need to improve most in is emotional stability. I severely lack the ability to display emotional intelligence in compromising situations. As a result, I become easily stressed out, overwhelmed, frustrated and experience mood swings. However, I have taken steps to improving this weakness by attending a weekly therapy session with my psychiatrist in addition to participating in bi-weekly group therapy for victims of trauma. I’d love to see the ‘calm nature ’, positive side to myself moving forward. Identify one trait from the Big Five that you think helps you cope with challenging situations and provide an example. Your response should be 2 to 5 sentences in length. One trait from the Big Five that I know can help me cope with challenging situations is extroversion. I did really well in this category because I'm a social butterfly. I enjoy social gatherings with my family and friends and being among other people. When plans are changed or I find myself in a situation where I must interact with others but don't feel confident doing so, I frequently feel lonely. When I get anxious, my 'talkative' side will go quiet. But because I'm an extrovert, I can use this personality attribute to effectively start up discussions with other people, even if it's simply small talk. This would gradually create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere while allowing me to enjoy others' company, and it would also give me a fresh perspective on the occasional need to be by myself. Identify one trait from the Big Five that you think is particularly important for your current or desired profession and justify your response. Your response should be 2 to 5 sentences in length. In my current position as a trained behavioral technician in a private school for children with autism, I consider emotional stability to be the most crucial of the Big Five qualities. Although
I've learned to be patient with my clients when they engage in challenging behaviors, I didn't do as well in my own life (I have anxiety issues). However, I am able to handle the pressures and strains of the day-to-day tasks in the classroom and have managed to control my emotions while working. Your textbook describes which personality traits are most important to employers: conscientiousness followed by agreeableness. Provide one reason why these traits would be desirable in an organizational setting and one reason why they would not. Your response should be 2 to 5 sentences in length. Being conscientious means being exceedingly attentive and diligent, which makes it a desirable attribute in an organizational situation. Being diligent means planning for all possible outcomes of any scenario or circumstance, which is crucial since it means being ready for everything. The trait of agreeableness would follow since one can stay upbeat and hopeful for better results by being ready for any situation or circumstance in the workplace. Describe at least one limitation of trait theory when it comes to characterizing a person or their behavior. Your response should be 2 to 5 sentences in length. o Consider topics related to social justice issues, such as gender and atavism. When it comes to describing a person or their conduct, one drawback of the trait theory is that it cannot explain why people with specific traits act one way in some circumstances but another in others. Because different researchers identify traits differently, traits are also challenging to assess when employing trait theory. • Considering that the traits are on a continuum, describe the extent to which you think you can change your traits over time. Your response should be 2 to 5 sentences in length. I think that as I get older and more exposed to other environments, my characteristics may alter. Social situations and experiences have significantly altered some of my traits as I approach my early 30s. Rather than being instantly modified, this was slowly digested. I've observed that I've started to be more careful. I now exhibit organizational qualities in both my professional and personal lives. I have increased motivation to reach my objectives while maintaining discipline. Additionally, I'm more conscious of the state of my emotional stability and am taking the required actions to strengthen this weak spot.
