2 Project Three Milestone Select the topic and explain why you selected that topic. Your response should be about 2 to 3 sentences. I made the decision to concentrate my efforts on the subject of "Police Striking Adults" for this project. I find this specific subject to be quite fascinating, and considering the current events in our nation, I thought it would be interesting to learn more about the studies involved. Create an annotated bibliography entry for your first article . Your response should be about 8 to 10 sentences that include the following elements: A description of the main purpose or goal of the article A description of the approach the authors took in their research The DeSilver et al. (2020) essay aims to draw attention to the public's perceptions of police officers and the way in which those same police officers interact with members of particular races. According to the report, 84% of black adults believe that they are not treated equally with white people, whereas 63% of white individuals also hold this belief. According to the information provided for this article, black people are approximately five times as likely, or 44% more likely, to be stopped by police because of their race or ethnicity. Particularly, 59% of black males and 34% of black women report having been unfairly stopped. Contrarily, the article also reveals that more than half of police officers claim to have good relationships with the various racial and ethnic groups in their neighborhood. Additionally, according to this study, 93% of police officers express worry for their safety, feeling that tragic confrontations between black people and officers have made policing more difficult. The authors used data from a survey that was conducted in the previous years, one source from 2019 and the other from 2016. The majority of the research results show that, in compared to white people, people of color are subject to more discriminatory treatment by police officers. Create an annotated bibliography entry for your second article . Your response should be about 8 to 10 sentences that include the following elements: A description of the main purpose or goal of the article A description of the approach the authors took in their research The major goal of the Graziano and Gauthier (2017) study is to determine whether there is a racial-ethnic hierarchy in views toward police wrongdoing and any discernible trends. This study found that there is a racial-ethnic hierarchy when it comes to how people view the police. In particular, African Americans have the most unfavorable attitudes toward the police, compared to whites, who have the opposite perspective. According to the study's statistics, more African Americans than members of any other ethnic group believe that police misbehavior has either been major or little. Racial
3 profiling is seen as a problem by more than 80% of African Americans, whereas only 43% of white people agree. The authors used computer-assisted telephone interviewing software to carry out the survey as their method of data collection. Between July and October 2015, the study was carried out in a medium-sized Californian town with a population of about 130,000 people. The average age was 37, and 10.5% of the population identified as African American, 14.5% as Asian, 35% as Hispanic, and 40% as white. The participants had a comparatively high level of education, with 86% having a high school diploma and 49% having a bachelor's degree or higher, and the median household income was $70,000. The inhabitants were questioned regarding their opinions on personal media use, attitudes of the police and their interactions with them, and public safety. Even though the survey's variable is not a perfect representation of all Americans, the results can be utilized as a springboard for subsequent study of a wider population. Describe the difference in communication style of the two articles. Your response should be about 3 to 5 sentences. Consider the following in your response: Do the articles reach a similar conclusion? Do the articles present similar information? Do the articles consider the role of visuals in the same way? Do the articles present the findings in a convincing way, and is one more effective? How do the tone and style of the articles compare, and what does that mean for the reader? Reviewing the two articles reveals that they arrive at a fairly similar result. The first piece looks to have been intended for the general public, whilst the second appears to have been written more for the scientific community but could still be understood by the general public. Both articles made use of research that was completed one to four years before the articles were published. Information gleaned from both publications was never compared to facts; rather, it was merely used as the participants' opinions. Both articles employed illustrations to help clarify their points of view; however, the second article's illustrations are more scientific in nature and use statistical graphs to describe the data, as opposed to the first article's simple diagrams. also studies describe their findings convincingly, but they also seem to fall short when attempting to tie opinions to verifiable facts. While the second article seems more professional and presents the data more scientifically, the first piece appears to be more professional and employs catchy names that may be used to create shock value and maybe deceive the reader. Both articles convey their findings in ways that may be comprehended by a wide range of readers, so the tone seems to be similar in both. This indicates that the reader should be able to comprehend the findings presented, but the first article's intriguing titles come with the warning that they might influence the reader without the use of accurate information.
