How do cultural tools and social influences shape thinking in Vygotsky's theory of cognitive development? Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory views human development as a socially mediated process in which children acquire their cultural values, beliefs, and problem-solving strategies through collaborative dialogues with more knowledgeable members of society. (Mcleod, 2020) Social interactions and cultural tools play an important roll in human development according to sociocultural theory. Vygotsky emphasized that interactions with adults and others help to provide children with the tools for higher mental processes to occur (Mcleod, 2020). The tools that the children are given allow them to create their own representations, symbols, and understandings (Mcleod, 2020). Language is considered the most important symbol system learned allowing for effective communication within ones own culture. Mcleod, S. (2020).
