1 Project Two: Behavior Change Blueprint Southern New Hampshire University PSY 108: Introduction to Psychology PSY 108 Project Two: Behavior Change Blueprint Part 1. Set a Goal My goal is to save up $1000 in 6 months. Part 2: Apply Self-Assessments Coping Strengths The proactive coping skill that I scored one of the highest on is strategic planning. I scored 13 out of 16 and this means I am always carefully trying to plan ahead. I will often think about things that might become too difficult and I will do my best to prepare for difficulties. This will help me in the long run when achieving my goals because I like to have a sense of already understanding how the months will work. I will write down all my financial obligations such as bills, so I can understand how much I need to save each month to meet my goal. The proactive coping skill that I unfortunately scored the lowest in is emotional support seeking. I only got 11
2 out of 20. I will often do things on my own because I do not like to burden other people with my issues, so I more often than not do not reach out to people. I think if I was to work through my stubbornness and actually reach out to people if I am having difficulties might help me in the long run when coming up to achieving this goal. The reason why it might help me is to say maybe one month I am running a little bit short on bills I could always ask for more hours or turn to family if I really have to so I can stay on track. Grit On the grit assessment I scored 37 out of 50. At this moment in time, I am placed in the middle range when it comes to grit, I have some but it's not as high as other people's. I feel like this is pretty accurate for me as sometimes I do have a little bit of issues with sticking with plans. However, on the other hand sometimes if it's something really important to me I will do everything I can and stick with my plan day in and day out for as long as I can till, I can make it a reality. I am going to use my grit to help me stick to my goal in a few ways. Anytime I get cash I'm going to put it aside and not touch it, I know we don't get cash as much in a digital era however my work we get tips and any sort of tips I get I'm going to just store away and not put it in my bank account. I feel as though this will help me by passively giving me a bit more income so that I am not checking off in my bank statements. Then at the end of each month counting up how many tips I have made to add on top of already what I'm saving that is not going to bills. If I put my tips into my bank account, I may get more or less each month depending on how many tips I get and that might mess up my flow. So, if I treat tips as a completely separate entity that is not attached to my bank account, I can use that as either backup money for if I'm running low on bills or as a little surprise at the end of each month to add towards my final goal. Personality Traits
3 I think my moderately high score on Conscientiousness can help me achieve my goal. My moderately high score on conscientiousness can help me in supporting my commitment to my goal because I enjoy routines and structure. If I was to say set up a routine that every week when I get paid, I take $100 from my paycheck put it into savings and not touch it I will be less likely to spend money on things I do not need because I know that this is an important task that I have to do every week. I also understand that I won't be perfect every single time, so I won't beat myself up if one week I'm only able to put $50 in my savings. Part 3: Integrate Concepts How I Can Use My Strengths to Overcome My Weaknesses I think my grit will help me in overcoming my want to spend on things that I don't physically need. I'll be able to cut down on my say door dashing so I can make sure that every week I can put $100 in my bank. I feel as though my grit, even though it is not as high as it could be, is good enough to help me stick to my goal and know how important it will be in the long run once I am able to form a routine. After I do budget for the month if I do have a little bit of extra money left over, I could splurge on something small to make me feel better that I'm actually achieving my goals and that might even build up my grit in the long run.
