Answer the following question based on the video described below: Focusing on one video you viewed, explain why humanistic-existential psychotherapy was utilized with the patient in the video and why it was the treatment of choice. Describe the expected potential outcome if the second approach had been used with the patient. Video Description In the video "Existential-Humanistic Psychotherapy in Operation," famous therapist and educator Bugental conducts two actual psychotherapy sessions with the same client. This video demonstrates how Bugental applies the ideas he has covered in over a hundred journal articles and chapters, as well as multiple acclaimed books (Existential-humanistic psychotherapy with James Bugental Video 2009). The video exhibits Bugental's ability to facilitate client and therapist presence, work with resistance to deeper living, establish a balance between confrontation and support, reinforce client subjectivity as fertile ground for true depth work, and help clients through the process of searching. Dr. Bugental leads the group in an in-depth discussion following each session, and the client contributes to the dialogue by sharing her thoughts and providing further insight (Existential-humanistic psychotherapy with James Bugental Video 2009). The film is an excellent resource for training both novice and experienced therapists because it offers an in-depth and sensitive technique created by Dr. Bugental. In the video "Existential-Humanistic Psychotherapy in Action," humanistic-existential psychotherapy was used with the patient because it is a client-centered approach that emphasises personal responsibility and self-awareness. Dr. Bugental stressed the importance of assisting the client's self-exploration and search for meaning (Existential-humanistic psychotherapy with James Bugental Video 2009). The patient in the video grappled with existential concerns, such as detachment from her existence and a sense of meaninglessness. The humanistic-existential approach provided a secure and welcoming atmosphere for the patient to examine these difficulties and gain a better understanding of herself. Because of the therapist's emphasis on subjectivity as a productive field for meaningful depth therapy, the patient was able to focus on her interior experiences and emotions. If the patient had received cognitive-behavioral therapy, the outcome would have been different. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a more directive and structured approach to changing harmful thought patterns and behaviours. While CBT may have helped the patient in the short term by teaching her coping strategies to manage her symptoms, it may not have addressed the underlying existential issues that were causing her problems (Sigurvinsdóttir et al., 2020). The client-centered method of humanistic-existential psychotherapy provides a more holistic and tailored therapeutic strategy for this particular patient's needs.
