1 Adlerian Lifestyle Assessment Paper Marisa Butler University of Phoenix CCMH/506: Personality Theories and Counseling Models Dr. Jennifer Reynolds May 6, 2024
2 Adlerian Lifestyle Assessment Paper After personally completing Adlerian Life Assessment. In this paper I will discuss my personal family constellation including my birth order. I will also discuss observations and themes in my own early recollections. I will also explain the style of life. I will explain what I noticed about my personal beliefs about myself, my interactions with others, and the world. I will incorporate any observations I have made related to inferiority/superiority and private logic. I will also identify other Adlerian concepts identified in the Adlerian Life Assessment. I will conclude my perceptions of the usefulness of clients engaging in the Adlerian Life Assessment, including revisiting their family of origin. Family Constellation I'm the eldest among four siblings in a blended family. My mother has two daughters, and my stepfather has two sons. As the eldest, I naturally assumed a caretaker role and always obeyed the rules. I observed that the siblings closest in age formed stronger connections, likely due to their shared experiences and similar personality traits. Despite my parental figures initially seeming like opposites, they complemented each other, creating a harmonious balance within our family dynamic. Our core family values remained steadfast as we all matured. Throughout the years, our family environment and atmosphere remained consistent. What truly defines my role within our family constellation is its unwavering nature; I continue to prioritize caring for both my younger siblings and my parents. Early Recollections In my earliest memories, I displayed unmistakable first-born characteristics. Even as a child, I felt a sense of responsibility and strived for excellence in everything I pursued. I yearned for recognition from both my parents and siblings for the effort I invested. While my younger
3 siblings sometimes tested the boundaries set by our parents, I consistently aimed to abide by the rules. On the rare occasions when I succumbed to peer influence and deviated from our family's standards, I grappled with overwhelming guilt. Looking back on some of my early recollections, I can see how they projected onto my present-day self. Style of Life I noticed with my personal beliefs, that I was consentingly striving for perfection. I have noticed a consistent pattern in beliefs that shape my self-image and guide my actions. When engaging with others, I consistently prioritize focusing on connection-based empathy, mutual respect, and understanding. I had this internal voice saying, “you are doing your best, but you can do better.” This drive became my fuel, propelling me forward to pursue personal growth. Whenever feelings of inferiority crept in, I redirected my focus towards achieving my objectives while remaining true to my core beliefs. While reaching the end goals held great significance for me, I also recognized the profound importance of the journey itself. Each step, each challenge, was a vital part of my growth and development. Adlerian Concepts The other Adlerian concepts I recognize in the lifestyle assessment are uniqueness of the individual, social interest, and subjective final goal. The uniqueness of the individual is identified through Adlerian lifestyle assessment in a couple of different ways. When asking about sibling characteristics and family atmosphere. These questions allow the uniqueness to be noticed by the individual and other family members. The early recollections also dive into the individual’s uniqueness. Social interest can be identified in the assessment under the section of personal development. Individuals crave a desire to belong to others or a community. This is going to be shown through their personal development in the past and the future. The subjective final goal is
