White (Male) Nationalism! Herrenvolk Democracy in Jackson’s America was an extension of white nationalism. Political leaders excluded or included people from the political process by race and gender. The majority of Americans in this era— North and South —believed that American identity had an ethnic component.

Andrew Jackson, 7th President Andrew Jackson was a war hero. He had an imperious , cantankerous personality. He had a temper, but he could control and use it. Jackson was portrayed as a violent murderer, who killed people at will and enjoyed it. He had fought several duels and executed people. He argued that he had done so for sound reasons.
Why so Angry? During the Revolutionary War, a young Jackson was ordered to polish the boots of a Red Coat. He refused. The Red Coat struck him in the head with the blunt side of his saber. He had a groove in his skull for the rest of his life.
