Week 04 Lesson Plan Template
Personal Experiences
1.
When have you had a personal, meaningful experience where you have come to feel the redemptive and/or enabling power of the Atonement? a.
Before I was ever baptized into the church, I remember making some choices that were not good but as I started taking the missionary discussions, I was able to learn about the Atonement. They encouraged me to come unto Christ and repent. After repenting I felt the Lord’s forgiveness and enabling power. It came even more as I chose to make better choices and become fully converted to the Lord.
2.
When have you been led by the Spirit or have experienced a revelation or another gift of the Spirit? Think about when, where, and why these experiences happened. Did you do anything in particular to prepare yourself for such an experience? How was the Lord's hand manifest in the experience? How did you feel? What can you do to have similar experiences? Remembering these experiences can help you recognize and receive the Spirit once again.
a.
When I was searching for the truth in my life I didn’t know where to go and felt lost. As I was searching, I met a girl close to my age who had recently been baptized and was so excited about it that she talked about it often. I didn’t understand why she was so happy
about it but after talking to her about it I felt a certain witness in my heart that what she
said was true. I knew that I needed to be baptized. The family I had been currently living with wouldn’t allow me to be baptized but when I was moved to a new family, I asked them, and I was baptized 3 months later. Meaningful Scriptures
3.
What scripture has had personal, meaningful significance to help you feel the redemptive and/or enabling power of the Atonement?
a.
Alma 34:9 – “for it is expedient that an atonement should be made; for according to the great plan of the Eternal God there must be an atonement made, or else all mankind must unavoidably perish; yea, all are hardened; yea, all are fallen and are lost, and must perish except it be through the atonement which it is expedient should be made.”
4.
What scripture has had personal, meaningful significance to strengthen your testimony of how the Holy Ghost teaches or has taught others?
a.
Moroni 8:26 – “and the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and
because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost,
which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God.”
Lesson Plan: 5.
In the area below, create a 3-5 minute lesson plan about ONE
of the following topics. a.
The Atonement of Jesus Christ (See PMG, pp. 51-52)
b.
Learning by the Holy Ghost (See PMG, pp. 18-19)
6.
While in the mission field, your lessons will need to be taught as directed by the Spirit, for this assignment you’ll need to write out your lesson plan word for word. You should do this as if you were putting the lesson plan together but you wouldn’t be there to deliver it. Your lesson plan should include:
a.
A simple explanation of the doctrine being taught.
b.
A scripture with an explanation of how it ties to the doctrine.
c.
An experience with an explanation of how it ties to the doctrine.
d.
Your testimony of the doctrine.
Hi Weston and Packer, I am glad you guys were able to meet with us again. Last time we met we discussed our Heavenly Father's love for each of us and how he shows that love. We specifically mentioned how He shows that love through sending Jesus Christ to atone for our sins. This week we would like to emphasize more on the Atonement and teach you about the Holy Ghost. What do you know about the Atonement and the Holy Ghost? How have you felt about the guidance of the Holy Ghost in your life?
[response]
That is so powerful, thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings. It is pretty powerful when we submit ourselves to the Savior and allow the atonement to take place in our lives that we become humbled to follow the promptings of the Spirit. There is a scripture I love that I have found to be very significant to me on how atonement works in humbling us. This scripture can be found in Moroni 8:26. Through this verse I have found that atonement does truly help us be humbled allowing the Spirit to lead and guide us. Will you read verse 26?
“And the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God.”
Ask: What were your thoughts when you read this scripture? What have learned about the atonement that allows the Holy Ghost to lead and guide us?
[confirm truths]
Something that stood out to me in this verse was that as we use the atonement in our lives we can truly submit to the Lord. Submitting to the Lord not only allows us to be forgiven and healed but also, we
allow the Holy Ghost to lead and guide us. This means that when we submit ourselves to the Lord, we choose to give up those habits that had us turned from the Savior. As we do this, we can have the companionship of the Holy Ghost. What does giving up those habits that kept you from the Savior look like for you? What might you do to turn from those habits and to the Savior?
[response]
Those are some great ways to break away from those habits! For me, I have turned to studying the scriptures because that is giving time to Him. As I have given up time for Him, I notice that I start to want
to give more time to Him and not those bad habits. I can feel the difference between making those good
choices to obtain good habits of time for Him and when I don’t do that. Knowing the difference between
them has allowed me to know what is that I truly want in my life.
I know that as we choose to make time for the Lord we will make less and less time for those habits that have turned us from the Savior in the past. I promise that as you choose to make the Lord your focus you will find peace and healing through the atonement and guidance of the Holy Ghost. [extend invitation and promise blessings]
We share these things with you in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
