This lesson plan provides a lot of useful information. One part of this lesson
plan that I found valuable was all the examples provided of o and its varying sounds and
words it can be found in. This is important to show students the variety of a letter and
how to identify it. I also found it useful that the lesson plan includes teaching students
how
they
can make sounds of o and the difference between the sounds of a short o and
a long o. However, I do think that the lesson plan could explain an easier way for
children to make these sounds. Personally, I think visuals and movements are very
memorable for children and help with recall and understanding. I think the lesson plan
should include showing the letter o and having students write the letter o with their
finger in the air. Then show students how to make the sound and put their finger near
their mouth to make the shape of the o.
(Enileyka) The lesson plan provides the required reading content for children to practice
and acquire the planned knowledge for the grade level. For example, applying the
foundation of how frequency words have a powerful meaning when decoding sounds
are a basic steps to show students and maintain the focus of words. Moreover, the
different strategies to apply during the reading lesson by including whiteboards to
support students in learning how to write th phoneme words and practice repeating the
sounds.Using manipulatives are important since many students are more visual in
learning than oral which can be helpful to target the words that students have more
difficulty with. Lastly, modeling the sounds when blending each word using hands will
accelerate the new concept that is being introduced in the reading lesson.
(Miranda) This lesson plan is thoroughly planned out, with preparation/instructional
notes and approximate timing that each step will take. It is something that is easily
followed, even by someone that may be seeing it for the first time. I particularly like that
they outlined what materials the teacher will need and what materials the students will
need. One thing that I would change, would be adding more verbal responses from the
children rather than just having them write their answers on a whiteboard. Students are
more likely to remember information if they are actively practicing it by saying it out loud.
I also like that it is explicitly listed in the lesson plan on day 2 to review what the
students learned yesterday. Taking 5 or so minutes to review the information will most
likely greatly help students get into the right mindset for their more advanced lesson.
