Significance: People were arrested and the Palmer Raids imperilled thousands of immigrants Red Scare: Definition: It was a period when everyone was caught up in the containment of communism Causes: World war 1, The rise of communism in eastern Europe, immigration from eastern Europe, nativism. Significance: The Red Scare led to a range of actions that had profound and enduring effect on U.S government and society for example the actions that the Red Scare had caused was the Sedition act of 1918, Debs vs United States (1919), and the Sacco and Vanzetti trial. Sacco and Vanzetti: Definition: They were italian men who were accused of robbery and the murder of at Slater and Moril shoe factory in South Braintree Significance: They were accused of the murder and the robbery because they were immigrants and they were also found gulity Quota Acts: Definition: It was a limitation of immigration in the united states
Significance: Only 2 percent of the people of each nationally already living in the United States are allowed to immigrate Scopes Trial: Definition: Scopes went on trial for teaching evolution in school Significance: Back then teaching evolution in school was illegal because of a cultural religious backlash Prohibition/18 th Amendment: Definition: It banned people from drinking alcohol which actually caused more crimes Significance: The people who advocated for the government to ban alcohol thought that it would be best for society since it was causing health problems but it actually caused more crimes and more problems. The American Economy was really bad back then because families and Farmers were struggling with high cost of living, farm prices, farm distress, and were also unable to secure employment What is the main point of the cartoon?
