Stockton University Bachelor of Science in Health Science Program HLTH 2501: Teamwork & Collaboration Informational Interview Assignment An informational interview is a brief meeting between a person who wants to investigate a career and a person working in that career. It is a meeting initiated by you, and the interview usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes. The goal of an informational interview is not to get a job, but to gather information about industries, jobs or organizations you might like – to see if they fit your interests and personality. This assignment, which represents 5% of your grade, requires that you conduct an informational interview with a professional in the healthcare field , and complete the form found at the end of this document. The form is to be filled out (typed or in clear handwriting!) and turned as a .doc or .docx document by the date indicated. Guidelines 1. Identify and interview a professional currently working in the field you are preparing for (for example, if you are in the pre-occupational therapy concentration, the professional you choose must be a licensed occupational therapist). Do not interview a grad student! 2. If you are in the General BSHS track, you are to interview a professional currently working in the healthcare field whose completed education includes a four-year college degree. 3. You may interview a Stockton professor or adjunct instructor who has practiced in the field or currently does, a Stockton graduate working in the field (the Career Center’s StocktonWorks database has graduate mentors in a variety of career fields available to speak with students), or someone you know or have been referred to in the field. This interview may NOT be conducted with a family member, so as to provide the best opportunity for you to develop your skills at informational interviewing. 4. You may conduct these interviews by phone (or Skype!), but it is always best to do them in person; you may NOT do them by e-mail. 5.
