Conceptual Framework 2 For my research, I wanted to evaluate the current and future use of telehealth services by medical professionals and the potential impact such services have on patients, medical providers, and the healthcare system. For this project, I have chosen a conceptual framework as I believe it better suits the type of research to be conducted. A conceptual framework allows for multiple theories, along with other various concepts and findings from existing literature and is used to illustrate relationships amongst these theories/concepts concerning the respective research. As stated by Imenda, “a conceptual framework may be defined as a result of bringing together several related concepts to explain or predict a given event or give a broader understanding of the phenomenon of interest – or simply, of a research problem.” There has been a multitude of existing studies related to the various aspects of my problem statement, a conceptual framework for my proposed study allows for a visualization of all these areas. Within each area of the framework exists multiple variables, which in return can affect the various relationships within the study. Factors such as a patient’s access to technology and a medical provider’s location can act as moderator variables while laws and regulations regarding telehealth service act as a mediator variable for the healthcare system. Using a conceptual framework can help guide research by providing researchers with the “opportunity to define the importance of the research in terms of what has been studied before as well as proffers a reason as to why the topic needs to be extended in the manner as outlined by the researcher” (Gavin, 2016). Since we have existing research into telehealth medicine, and this type of service is likely to be used well beyond the Covid-19 pandemic, a conceptual frame can guide research by elaborating on the various relationships of patients, medical providers, and the healthcare system.
