After reviewing the Healthcare Policy Stakeholder table for this discussion, the chosen stakeholder was the provider. As the table explains, providers are comprised of one of the following: an organization, facility, or individual practitioner of healthcare services. They are responsible for applying care and services, establishing and implementing policies, and maintaining pertinent health information for those for whom they provide care services (Ritz, Althauser & Wilson, 2014).
Providers significantly influence healthcare services within geographic areas based on how they operationalize their services and coverage costs. Providers' interest revolves around their ability to provide services in an accessible way through location or expenses. A significant concern for many consumers is the affordability of the healthcare services they obtain, and providers focus on maintaining profitability and costs to continue to provide services. Many will seek more affordable options or avoid treatment if the expenses exceed their means.
As stakeholders, providers influence healthcare policies in a variety of manners. One example is their impact on insurance providers and how they implement their coverage practices. Based on the costs that providers implement for their services impact the rates received by those covered by insurance providers, as these costs are calculated as part of their overall operational needs. This constant balancing affects the services communities within geographic areas can obtain, along with providers needing to balance their costs to expand or provide sufficient services to the areas they are operating within. For my role and interest as a stakeholder, the provider's healthcare policies are essential as both a receiver of service and an employee of a facility. Obtaining healthcare services as a patient is essential because it allows me to receive quality care. As an employee working in a facility, we must maintain the balances described to have consistent patients seeking our facility's services.
