l agree with you that consumers play a major role as Stakeholders in healthcare policy, as they are healthcare recipients. We become patients at one time or another, and sometimes taxpayers. Policymakers have a fiduciary duty to the consumers, as they determine the country’s policy framework as an establishment to benefit patients. Knowing patients receive care services from providers and become the beneficiary customers of the payors. By being Stakeholders, patients also look to access information about their care via an electronic device; what would happen if the consumers were not in the picture? The other Stakeholders role would not be in existence, but as we can see, we all need each other in the roles that we take. The consumer wants to stay healthy, but that is not possible all the time; we also find that some consumers are not able to get the help they seek if they can not afford it, and so having that provision for financial aid comes through Medicaid and Medicare. When consumers get their bills, the role of advocacy gives them hope when they know someone is able to be their voice, and that gives them hope.
According to Joint Commission, Health care quality and health outcomes are often worse for racial/ethnic minorities, women, people living in rural communities, people with disabilities, those living in poverty, people with lower educational attainment, and other historically marginalized groups, with this kind of sentiments, we find so many suffer or lose hope because they do not feel they are a priority or feeling isolated because of their background and having Joint Commission whose goal is to provide the necessary tools to healthcare organizations to provide safe and high-level healthcare, it becomes important that everyone gets equal opportunity in healthcare.
Understanding the principalities and being able to play a role that would go towards assisting the consumer, that is showing empathy and builds the trust in the consumer.
Thank you
