Good afternoon fellow classmates and professor, Reviewing previous coursework for revision has been an insightful process, showcasing a high-level of improvement from my undergraduate degree to my graduate degree. I definitely learned a lot from this process of reflection, which has been important in understanding various strengths and weakness (Miller & Morgaine, 2009) for improving my past assignments in other classes. It has been an interesting experience thus far since we are conducting the process ourselves, instead of someone else to determine what our strengths and weaknesses are. Therefore, the three lessons I learned from this process includes the ability to conduct graduate-level writing, create efficient process structuring, and acknowledging the extent of my capabilities. Conducting Graduate-Level Writing One of the most notable differences in pursuing a graduate degree was the amount of academic writing that was involved. The majority of my time in my previous courses was writing academic papers of various sorts. I learned that these graduate-level papers involved more extensive research, advanced analysis, and a deeper understanding of the material being written about. In addition, the resources required to utilize were more scholarly and peer reviewed materials. Furthermore, I learned proper citation of sources in APA format when referencing material. More specifically, citing electronic sources with various URLS, DOI’s, and bracketing that is needed for certain electronic citations ( Purdue Online Writing Lab , n.d.). I also learned that writing graduate-level papers required the contribution of original ideas,
rather than demonstrating a level of understanding commonly seen with undergraduate writing. Creating Efficient Process Structuring Due to the nature of contributing new insights to graduate-level writing assignment, I learned to develop an efficient process for structuring assignment papers. For instance, when writing research papers, I had to identify what the problem was, fully understand the material, analyze key pieces of information, and then sort the material in the way that would best support my thought process. I also learned how to write an abstract, literature review, methodologies, and results properly, which are all major components of writing a research paper ( Grand Canyon University, n.d.) . Acknowledging The Extent of Capabilities Lastly, reflecting on previous coursework and making improvements made me realize the extent of my academic capabilities as a graduate student. This creates the feeling of self confidence and sense of achievement, acknowledging that I can complete various tasks at a highly educated level. These lessons learned serve as a confirmation of my abilities and the level I can execute them without having any doubts or a feeling of lacking progression. Thereby, converting these educational experiences into actual learning characteristics about myself (Colorado State University, 2017), which I can transfer over to my professional career as a supply chain manager. However, there will always be lessons to learn from, as there is always room for improvement. References
