Good afternoon fellow classmates and professor, Choosing between an existing social media platform or creating one to be used as the best location for an e-portfolio, depends on the goals and intentions of an individual. For example, an individual who is applying for job may want to choose using an existing social media platform that is easily accessible for employers to review. Conversely, if an individual is starting up their own business and wants to showcase specific services they provide in their offering, then maybe creating their own website may be more beneficial. However, having a balance between these aspects may be more beneficial and increase potential opportunities for an individual. Therefore, I believe the best location for an e-portfolio would be on an existing social media platform, as well as creating a personal website and posting a blog. Best Location for My E-portfolio Initially, existing social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn provides a wider reach for networking and extending collaborative efforts (Chantanarungpak, 2015). They have a vast user base and offer significant amount of networking opportunities and exposure. Additionally, it is a cost-effective way to put yourself on the market for different professional opportunities when starting out. Creating your own platform would lack the number of users and audience as no one would know of it and would require additional time to gain followers. Furthermore, one of the biggest advantages of social media is the effect it has on influencing others. Thus, the place I would put my e-portfolio would be on an existing social media platform like LinkedIn to influence the hiring or business decisions from potential employers or businesses (Ashar, 2023). Unlike a resume that summarizes my skills and
abilities, my e-portfolio would be the digital representation of my abilities, displaying proof of my qualifications and suitability for a job or service. Utilizing A Blog and Website To showcase the progress of the past work conducted, I would utilize a blog and a website to optimally showcase my e-portfolio. This would combine the advantages of both and provide additional benefits when used together versus separately. For instance, blogging on an existing social media platform provides the ability provide reflection on updated progress that is readily available to followers and audiences to review ( Denton & Wicks, 2013). In addition, creating a website allows for a tailored presentation of my portfolio without the restrictions or constraints from existing platforms, providing more freedom to design and organize contes in a way that best reflects my professional identity. Accessibility to The Public In terms of accessibility, I envision a public-facing website with certain restrictions. For example, the main e-portfolio content would include my professional achievements, project samples, and contact information that will be publicly accessible. This openness ensures visibility and ease of access for potential employers, clients, and professional contacts. However, sensitive information, such as detailed project data or personal contact details, will be behind a privacy barrier and would be accessible only upon request. This strategy strikes a balance between openness and privacy, safeguarding sensitive information while promoting professional transparency. Closing Thoughts
Overall, I would utilize the combination of an existing social media platform, a blog, and website for my e-portfolio. I can use the social media platform for its existing users and audience base to reach potential employers or business partners. I would link a custom website that details the contents of my e-portfolio for others to access from the social media platform. Lastly, I would utilize the blog on the existing social media platform to highlight updates and progression of my e-portfolio on the custom website for interested users to follow along my professional journey. This would enhance potential opportunities and provides a combination of advantages through this strategy approach in promoting my e-portfolio. References Ashar, L. (2023, June 29).
