TOPIC: Things I learned about __
Cross battery Assessments_and Fluid Reasoning
_______
This week’s reading assignment: ONE thing that impacted my learning/understanding
Dr. Dawn Flanagan explained that fluid reasoning is the thinking that an individual uses with a new task. She also mentioned that learning these terms can be difficult for general education teachers, therefore, she indicated that it is important to give examples, this helps teachers give input from
observations in the classroom, thus helping us understand data of weaknesses for a given
student. These data would manifest in the classroom which would be a real-world setting, ultimately what we look for. (Flanagan, 2017)
This impacted my understanding because learning about fluid reasoning seemed more complicated than it was. Her explanation simplified the term and allowed me to be able to explain it to teachers. This is helpful when collaborating with the IEP committee when developing a student’s educational plan. Searching the Internet: One website

“Fluid intelligence is considered “fluid” because it’s not based on concepts that build up over time. FR uses no background knowledge. An individual with a higher level of FR typically likes challenges, is a creative problem solver, and has the ability to think flexibly.” (Linda Downey, 2022) This website further explains the importance of fluid reasoning and the abilities that come with it. It explains that children develop fluid reasoning in the first two to three years of life, it refers to Gf as the foundation for how a child learns and masters new skills. My own experience, observation, or idea (one)
My own experience in going over fluid Ideas or knowledge of another person
Upon speaking to many fo my special education peers, I realized that many of htem
reasinign is low. However, I know that this is something that will often come up as an educational diagnostician. When going over assessment data, these terms will come up and it is important to understand them while also being able to explain them to the parents as well as the committee. It is essential to understand the importance of fluid reasoning as Dr. Flanagan explained, it is
often done in the classrooms already, so when it is explained, it puts the teachers at ease too. do not understand the concept of fluid reasoning; the diagnosticians will often go over the assessment data during an FEI presentation, but forget that not everyone in the committee understand the terms. For this
reason, I will try to go over terms as a present
an FIE when the time for me to do so comes. It will make the committee members more at
ease if they understand what is being discussed of the student. References
