Anchor Standards Graphic Organizer Instructions The Common Core State Standards Initiative details Anchor Standards for Kindergarten- Grade 12. You can access that information on their website or by clicking the link above. In your graphic organizer, be sure to include all of the following: CCSS Anchor Standard and CCR Category Identify four anchor standards related to: -language -reading -writing -speaking & listening Review the Common Core Connect website Use the CCSS abbreviations of the CCSS: RI (Reading Informational); Rf (Read foundational); RL (Read Literature); L (Language); W (Writing); SL (Speaking and Listening) Concepts Students will know… Using the Strategy to Master Skills Students will be able to… (what skills do you want them to master) Research-Based Strategies Identify research-based strategies aligned to the standard. Be sure to include strategies to use in structured in-text interactive contexts as well as during interactive out-of-text learning structures. Select strategies that meet the needs of the following: o Students diagnosed with dyslexia o Students who are English Learners o Students who transfer between languages o Students who use language and other forms of communication and technology You may find that some strategies will meet the needs of all, and others will differentiate for specific targets. State the strategy, define the strategy, and provide a link to an instructional video of the strategy in action. Include a citation. Make sure your strategies are research-based and not, for example, from Teachers Pay Teachers. You will need to do some sleuthing.
EXAMPLE CCSS Anchor Standard and CCR Category Concepts Using the Strategy to Master Skills Research-Based Strategies 1. Anchor Standard: RI (Reading Informational) Standard 4 Interpret words and phrases as they are used in a text, including determining technical, connotative, and figurative meanings, and analyze how specific word choices shape meaning or tone. CCR: Craft and Structure CCSS.ELA- Literacy.RI.2.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text relevant to a grade 2 topic or subject area. Vocabulary in Context Word Choice Context Clues Know context clues are words or sentences around unfamiliar words used to explain their meaning Know different kinds of word attack skills (antonyms, prefixes, root words, suffixes, synonyms, etc.) Know a glossary is an alphabetical list of important words and their meanings found at the end of the text Use context clues to determine the meaning of a word and/or phrase Use different kinds of word attack skills (antonyms, prefixes, root words, suffixes, synonyms, etc.) to explain the meaning of words and/or phrases Use a glossary to find the meaning of a word [include 3 strategies]
