Green Chemistry Experiments Evaluation CHEM 2316 Extra Credit Assignment Due date: 5/8/23 no later than 11:59 p.m. (5 points) 1- What is Green Chemistry and why is it important? Green Chemistry is the design of processes and chemical products that eliminate or reduce the generation or use of hazardous substances. This is important as it reduces the population that could be created by these experiments and eliminates the number of hazards products that could be let out to the environment affecting one’s surrounding. 2- What do you think was the purpose of introducing green experiments in the syllabus? It was to teach us about alternative ways to do experiments that are mindful to the environment and reducing the possible impact one can have via pollution of hazards product. It also teaches us how sustainability can be used in many places, including the classroom. 3- What are the aspects you look at in a reaction to see if the reaction is green or not? The product, solvents, and reagents are used to see if it produces hazards outcomes or pollution that can affect the environment such as waste streams. One can also see if a reaction ins green depending on were is the sources of the chemicals is from, safety to be used in lab, and degradation of the products after use. 4- What is your understanding of Green Chemistry based on CHEM 2316? Green chemistry is important to practice specifically in school as hundreds of students do these las that without it can cause much pollution which could lead to degrading effects to our environment. By learning and practicing like we did in this course, we can learn about the subject of chemistry and practice it safely while being conscious of the earth. 5- How was your experience in performing green experiments? Please share in a few sentences. I found it interesting to learn about it every week specifically when asked in the lab report abbot what makes a certain lab green. It made me understand the importance and significance behind practicing such a technique while still feeling good that what one is doing will not have lasting effects on the surroundings.
