The statement that identifies preferred structure has to be determined. Also, reason for same has to be explained.

Concept Introduction:

The diagrams that represent type of bonding between atoms in molecule and number of lone pairs present in molecule are known as Lewis electron-dot structures. Such structures are also known as Lewis dot diagrams, Lewis dot formulas or Lewis structures.

Formal charge is charge occupied by atom in molecule with consideration that chemical bonds are equally shared equally between two atoms, irrespective of their electronegativities.

The formula to calculate formal charge on an atom is as follows:
