Introduction:

The process of synthesis of the glycogen molecule from several glucose units is called as glycogenesis. Glycogenesis always requires an already-existing oligosaccharide. Glycogenin protein links the first glucosyl unit to its tyrosine amino acid, at position 194 (Tyr-194). Glycogenin is required in the initial stage of glycogen metabolism. It has autocatalytic glucosyltransferase activity.
