(a) Synthesize (3S, 4R)-3, 4-dibromo-1-cyclohexylpentane (and its enantiomer, since a racemic mixture will be formed) from ethyne, 1-chloro-2-cyclohexylethane, bromomethane, and any other reagents necessary. (Use ethyne, 1-chloro-2-cyclohexylethane, and bromomethane as the sole sources of carbon atoms.) Stan the problem by showing a retrosynthetic analysis. In the process, decide which atoms of the target molecule will come from which acorns of the starting reagents. Also, bear in mind how the stereospecificity of the reactions you employ can be used to achieve the required stereochemical form of the final product.
(b) Explain why a racemic mixture of products results from this synthesis.
(c) How could the synthesis be modified to produce a racemic mixture of the

The analogous reaction of HBr with 3-bromocyclohexene yields trans-1, 2-dibromocyclohexane as the soleproduct. - Write the IUPAC name for each compound, including the designation of configuration. Do not worry about italics, however syntax is important. (a) Br (b) (S)-2-bromobutane Br H3C. - Both cis- and trans-2-methylcyclohexanol undergo dehydration in warm sulfuric acid to give 1-methylcyclohexene as the major alkene product. These alcohols can also be converted to alkenes by tosylation using TsCl and pyridine, followed by elimination using KOC(CH3)3 as a strong base. Under these basic conditions, the tosylate of cis-2-methylcyclohexanoleliminates to give mostly 1-methylcyclohexene, but the tosylate of trans-2-methylcyclohexanol eliminates to give only 3-methylcyclohexene. Explain how this stereochemical difference in reactants controls a regiochemical difference in the products of the basic elimination, but not in the acid-catalyzed elimination.arrow_forwardShow how you might synthesize the following compounds starting with bromobenzene, andalkyl or alkenyl halides of four carbon atoms or fewer.(a) 3-phenylprop-1-ene (b) 5-methylhex-2-ene *(c) dec-5-enearrow_forward(c)Show step by step how to synthesize methoxybenzene from benzene.arrow_forward
