Solution

To find: The function and graph the given function.

The functions are $y=-\sqrt{-5x}\text{and}y=\sqrt{-5x}$ . The graph of both the equations is shown in figure (1).

Given information:

The function is $y^2=-5x$ .

Calculation:

The two functions can be found by solving for $y$ . Take the square root of both sides.

  $\begin{array}{c}y=\pm \sqrt{-5x}\\ y=-\sqrt{-5x}\text{and}y=\sqrt{-5x}\end{array}$

The two graphs are square root functions that are reflections of each other across the $x$ -axis as shown below.
