Concept introduction: Linear combinations of basis sets that are composed of stretching vectors of the molecule is said to be SALCs (Symmetry Adapted Linear Combinations), used to determine symmetries and binding schemes.
A systematic way to find out the method of combination of atomic orbitals to give correct group orbitals (SALCs) is projection operator method.
