The fractional distillation can be used if the boiling point difference between the components is less than $75°\text{C}$. Fractional distillation is better than the simple distillation due to the low boiling point range. It is used to separate useful substances from crude oil in oil refineries.

A mixture with uniform composition and properties throughout is called homogenous mixture.
