Introduction:

The entire genetic code of an organism is encoded on the DNA. But DNA is made of nucleotide bases of only four types, adenine (A), thymine (T), guanine (G), and cytosine (C). So the entire genetic code is written as a combination of these 4 nucleotide base pairs. This genetic code controls the entire functioning of the body through formation of proteins. There are millions of proteins in the body that run an organism. But all of them are made of 20 basic amino acids. The genetic code on a DNA codes for these 20 amino acids. The 4 nucleotide bases code for these 20 amino acids by arranging in different combinations of 3. That produces 64 possible combinations. This combination of 3 nucleotide bases is called the DNA triplet. DNA triplets code for the formation of mRNA strands that serve as the mirror image of the DNA triplets. This process is called transcription. The triplet nucleotide code transcribed on the mRNA is called a codon.
