Concept explainers
The role of electrical forces in the nuclear fission.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The nuclear fission is the nuclear reaction in which the heavier nucleus of element is splited into different lighter nucleus. The energy releases in the nuclear fission is very high.
There are many forces acts between subatomic particle inside the atom. The different force acts are electrical force and nuclear force. The electrical force acts due to the charge of the particles. It may be attractive or repulsive. The other force acts in the nucleus is strong nuclear force. The strong nuclear force binds the proton and neutrons in the nucleus.
The electrical forces between the protons in the nucleus are of repulsive nature. If the electrical force between the protons becomes greater than the strong nuclear force then the nucleus becomes unstable. The atom splits into different lighter atom to attain the stability.
The nuclear fission occurs due to greater electrical force than the strong nuclear force.
Conclusion:
Thus, the nuclear fission occurs due to greater electrical force than the strong nuclear force.
