Introduction:
The elements produced in the fission reaction are called fission fragments. It produces due to variation in the composition of the nucleus of the primary atom.
The number of protons must be equal to the number of neutron in the nucleus for stability of light nuclei. The heavy elements need more neutron than proton for stability of nuclei.
The process of making the stable nuclei of heavy element by neutron bombardment is called neutron activation. The neutrons are present abundantly in the nuclear reactor. So, the fission fragments are radioactive.
