Concept explainers
The effect on the energy release.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The mass per nucleon describes the stability of the nucleus of the radioactive material. The less is the mass per nucleon more is the energy released in the nuclear fission.
The mass per nucleon of the medium-weight nuclei is 0.1% lighter than the mass per nucleon of the heaviest nuclei. The percentage of the figure describes the energy release. If 0.1% describes the 1% of the figure, then the energy released by the heaviest nuclei would be the 10 times more energy than the medium weight nuclei.
Conclusion:
Thus, the energy released by the heaviest nuclei would be the 10 times more energy than the medium weight nuclei.
