Concept explainers
The difference between the mass of the nucleus and mass per nucleon of the nucleus.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The mass of the number of protons and number of neutrons is same as the mass of the nucleus. The mass of one particle in the nucleus is called the mass per nucleon of the nucleus.
The mass of the nucleus is the total mass of the nucleus and mass per nucleon is the average mass per nucleon of the nucleus. The mass per nucleon of heavier atom is less and mass per nucleon of lighter atom is more.
Conclusion:
Thus, the mass of the nucleus is the total mass and mass per nucleon is the average mass of the nucleon.
