Concept introduction:
Atomic mass of an element is the weighted average mass of the isotopes of that element.
Answer to Problem 76A
Ga-69 occurs in greater abundance
Explanation of Solution
Atomic mass of an element is the weighted average mass of the isotopes of that element. So, the isotopes occurring in greater abundance have a greater effect in determining the atomic mass. Therefore, isotopes with a mass closer to element’s atomic mass will have a greater abundance. Here, two naturally occurring isotopes are Ga-69 and Ga-71 among thesemass of Ga-69 is closer to Gallium which has an atomic mass of 69.723 amu.
Isotopes with a mass closer to an element’s atomic mass will be in greater abundance, i.e., Ga-69 occurs in greater abundance.

- Unshared, or lone, electron pairs play an important role in determining the chemical and physical properties of organic compounds. Thus, it is important to know which atoms carry unshared pairs. Use the structural formulas below to determine the number of unshared pairs at each designated atom. Be sure your answers are consistent with the formal charges on the formulas. CH.
