How do
Interpretation:
Difference and similarities between the isotopes of an elements needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Isotopes of an element have same atomic number and different mass number.
Answer to Problem 58A
- Number of protons will be same
- Number of electrons will be same
- Number of neutrons will be different
Explanation of Solution
Difference and similarities between isotopes
Atomic number will be same for the isotopes of an element.
The number protons is equal to atomic number therefore, number of protons will be same for isotopes. Also, number of electrons is equal to number of protons thus, the number of electrons will also be same.
Since, mass number is different for the isotopes of an element and mass number is sum of number of protons and neutrons.
The number of protons is same therefore; number of neutrons will be different.
Thus, number of protons and electrons are same and number of neutrons is different in the isotopes of an element.
