The shielding used in the fission power plants can absorb thermal as well as radioactive radiation. The shielding in the coal-fired power plant undergoes only thermal radiation and no radioactive radiation is present in the coal-fired power plant. So, the shielding of power plant are manufactured only to minimize the thermal radiation.
The need of the shielding in coal-fired power plant is less than in the fission power plant.
Conclusion:
Thus, the shielding in coal-fired power plant is less necessary than in the fission power plant.
