Concept explainers
The reason for no emission of alpha particle from Hydrogen atom.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The number of protons decreases by two unit and mass number by four units by the ejection of one alpha particle.
The hydrogen atom consists of one proton in the nucleus and one electron around the nucleus. It is necessary for an atom to have more than two protons and neutron in the nucleus of an atom.
The number of proton in the nucleus is only one, so hydrogen atom cannot emit the alpha particle.
Conclusion:
Thus, the hydrogen atom cannot emit the alpha particle because it have only one proton in its nucleus.
