Concept explainers
The reason for no ejection of the proton due to striking of light on a metal surface.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The ejection of the electrons from the metal surface depends on the work function of the metal surface.
The energy of the photon controls the ejection of the electron from the surface. The electrons remain in the orbit around the nucleus of the atom. The proton of the atom remains in the nucleus due to the strong nuclear force. The energy requires for the ejection for the proton is very high compared to electron and if the proton ejects from the atom then composition of the metal get disturbs.
Conclusion:
The proton does not ejects from the metal surface due to striking of light on surface because the ejection of proton needs very high energy compared to electron.
