The comparison of the energy of the photon with the difference in the energy levels of the atom from which it is emitted.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The electrons of an atom have various levels of the energy. The electron moves from lower level to higher level of the atom by absorbing some energy or emits the energy due to the movement from higher level to lower level.
The energy required to move an electron from one energy level to another energy level always remain equal to the energy of the photon. The electron from the surface of a metal emits due to the falling of the photon that has the energy equal to the difference in the energy levels of the atom.
Conclusion:
The atom emits the energy due to movement of the electron between higher energy level and lower energy level by absorbing the energy from the photon equal to the difference in the energy between the different levels.
